San Pedro de Alcantara is probably one of the most up and coming towns in the whole of Marbella and is now one of the most sought after areas in which to purchase property.

Originally, like many of the resorts and towns on the Costa del Sol, it was a small fishing community surrounded by fields with just a few farmhouses littered amongst the dirt tracks. These days San Pedro de Alcantara is a thriving authentic Spanish town going from strength to strength.

In about 2004/05 the local residents finally got their way and an underpass was started to divert the main traffic under the town, and stop the bottlenecks in traffic, which were a disaster during the summer months.

After many years of tunneling (slowed by the recession), the tunnel was finally opened and San Pedro de Alcantara took on a new lease of life.

Now there is a new park area called the San Pedro Boulevard, with a winding bridge and lots of play areas for the children. Complete with its very own amphitheater, adult exercise machines, water features, cycle path and restaurants, it is now a popular hang-out for families and individuals.

In the town itself there are many well established restaurants and bars with new ones opening virtually every month. In the main shopping area there is a 24 hour chemist and further up, the road has been pedestrianised with many shops, boutiques and cafés.

Down on the beach in San Pedro there is a promenade (paseo in Spanish), with a number of restaurants , bars and chiringuitos . The ‘paseo’ also now stretches all the way to Marbella so it is possible to walk to both Puerto Banus, which is about a 20 minute walk and central Marbella, which will take about an hour.

Due to the layout and all the new bars, restaurants and facilities in San Pedro de Alcantara, it is no wonder that it has become highly sought after for property buyers. It is an ideal location for a holiday home or a more permanent residence. Most facilities are within a short walk from any part of the town, making it a unique place in which to own a home.
