Spain v Portugal
For centuries there has been a rivalry between Spain and Portugal, some of which were not so friendly. These days they are good neighbours and share many of the same values.
- Both are obviously part of the EU and have adopted the Euro
- Both have successful national football teams
- Both make up the Iberian peninsula
- Both are extremely popular holiday destinations for Brits
- Both have become popular places for British people to set up home and reside
Looking more in-depth at the last point, it has over the years, drawn many Brits (expats) to set up a life in the sun. The relaxed lifestyle, hotter all year round weather, food and ease of travel from most parts of the UK have all helped make it a popular choice.
Setting up a home in a foreign country is fantastic but it can also be quite daunting as you start to try an learn new rules and negotiate things like residency and taxation. While many people have already done it, some people struggle with language and with the processes.
It is no different in Spain. Many people find the bureaucracy frustrating but it is a matter of learning that things can be slower and quite different to that of the UK.
Many people getting their residency or doing tax in Spain will these days just use the services of the experts. There are accountants that can help with personal tax returns and help with getting residency set up.
This is the same in Portugal. Rather tan struggle with language barriers, piles of paperwork and trying to understand the systems, why not use the services of an expert like Portutax.
